Correct.
Now,while I'm not a programmer myself, I'm told there are tricks that can be used to get around this. It could be that ANet's database is set up in a way that means these tricks don't work.

Its not hard to store your data by the bit, but it makes whatever process uses that data MUCH slower, since your hardware is still going to read both bytes, and then your program is going to have to assemble a 9-bit number out of them before it can work with it. Worse yet, whatever value is getting stored in the remaining 7 bits of the second byte is going to need to be right-shifted (and probably concatenated with a portion of the next byte) before it can be used. And so on down the line. None of your values line up on the byte boundaries, so all of them need additional computations to get them into shape before they can be used. Getting off of byte-aligned data is almost never a good idea.

What i would like to happen (probably never happen)
A Pet Pen - A Little Storage for you Mini Pets so you dont take up 20+ slots just to keep the little buggers you bought
Dye Tab - Just like the Materials tab (maybe make up pay 1k to get it)
Remove Stack Limit and make Tomes/Inscriptions stackable
Make the HoM a bit more manageable so you can choose what goes where on the displays (But dont make it account based or the HoM is ruined IMO, keep it a HoM per character)
Make Drunkard Point Based (Ha yeah like that is gunna happen)
Make The EoTN Grind Titles account based. (SS and LB are simple enough to get per account lol)

I thought a home base would be nice... à la Baldurs Gate II but more useful. Sort of like the Hall of Monuments or a personal Guild Hall, but more homey with a library for tomes, a paddock for pets, and an armoire for armor. Oh yeah.... and a fireplace.
Heck... maybe a place where we could invite other players over for pizza parties.
I know it's just a game, but sometimes I feel like my characters are homeless. I think my ranger's been sleeping under one of the bridges on the Isle of Meditation. Good thing they don't need to eat.
It's unlikely we'll get anything too complex though... too much coding and qa testing would be involved, darnit.

but its to be expected. in the last thread, quite a few were seriously underwhelmed, and they assured that it was gonna be "big"--i.e. more than just simple storage and account-wide hom.

Please tell me you're trolling. All of the female professions in this game are ridiculous skinny and even the front-line melee professions - Warrior and Dervish - look as though a good stiff wind gust could knock them over.

Anyway, some sort of storage improvements or upgrades would be nice. I'm not too fussed about skill balances, but I think a lot of people don't really realize just how difficult it really is to balance skills properly.

STORAGE
Tome storage == possible and fairly easy to implement since tomes have static attributes. May actually save anet server space in the long run.
Tome trader == would be nice, but unlikely.
Mod storage == difficult to implement in a way that saves space since mods do not have static attributes.
Mod trader == would be awesome, but unlikely.
Armor storage == even harder then Mod.
"Smart armor" system == a godly great idea that will never, ever, happen.
Bigger bags == awesome and always welcome.
SKILLS
Skill nerfs == some dervish and necro shit out there is long overdue for nerfs. But will likely be buffed instead for reasons only the flying spaghetti monster knows why.
Skill buffs == another round of "crappy elite buffs" as there are still plenty out there. *cough* [amity]. Seems very likely to happen again ( going by patterns here )
TROLLBUILDS
Will continue to be made

Sadly, I have to agree. The developers seemed to know what they were doing, hence why it took so long for them to nerf Ursan, but eventually they caved and now we don't have pugs at all. Yes it made the game a lot easier, but at least a lot of people were playing the game and it was easy to get into a group..
Now it's rare to see anyone grouping up and when you do see them, they only want very specific builds.

As for storage, I'd like:
- Storage tab for consumables.
- Storage tab for keys/lockpicks (possibly part of larger consumables tab).
- Storage tab for dyes
- Storage tab for tomes
- Storage tab for dedicated minipets (requires dedication be changed to account-wide; makes it possible to create a feature to deploy any minipet you own for any character from the storage tab without ever placing in character inventory; can be linked to HoM display; if properly implemented, reduces server space required as compared to current implementation, making more server space available for increased storage.)
- Character-specific storage tab for books
- Character-specific storage tab for armors
- Stackable (max) weapon mods, (max) inscriptions, insignias, & runes
- Storage tab for (max) weapon mods, (max) inscriptions, insignias & runes
- Stablemaster NPC that allows players to store ranger pets (up to 1 of each species) (same mechanism as holiday hat "storage" via the hat crafter)
- Simply more storage
New NPC's I'd like to see:- Trader for tomes
- Trader for (max) weapon mods and (max) inscriptions
- Stablemaster NPC (see above)
As for HoM/titles, I'd like:- Unified hall -- any achievement by any character is displayable for all characters.
- Display any weapons you happen to like.
- Very strongly consider decoupling PvE skills from rank requirements. Grind is bad. These skills should work at 100% effectiveness regardless of title grinding.
- Make reputation titles account-wide. If there's even a legitimate reason to make people grind these titles once, there certainly isn't one for making them do it repeatedly. (Also, reduces server space required as compared to current implementation, making more server space available for increased storage.)
- Make conspicuous-consumption-based titles account-wide. (Reduces mindless grind. Also, reduces server space required as compared to current implementation, making more server space available for increased storage.)
- Greatly reduce ridiculous grind required to max Luzon/Kurzick. (Even after recent changes, hundreds -- if not thousands -- of hours of boring grind still required. Too much.)
- Drunkard points awarded upon ingestion instead of upon minute's end.
- Legendary Master of Tyria/Cantha/Elona title with points awarded for maxing protector, guardian, vanquisher, cartographer, and skill hunter titles for that continent. Rank 1 (Master) for 3 maxed titles; rank 2 (Legendary Master) for 5 maxed titles. (Addresses very common complaint about titles, declining prestige because so many titles can be "bought" with gold or long-but-easy grind, by adding 3 achievement-based titles that cannot be bought. Also slightly increases prestige of KoaBD title track by giving those who advance KoaBD through achievements a 3-title advantage over those who purchase or grind titles.)

I certainly agree that there should be alternative ways to get these PvE skills - especially the Asura, Deldrimor, Norn, and Vanguard. After you've already done the multitude of quests and quests chains to get them on at least one character, maybe they should unlock at this in-game trader (could just be the normal skill trader too, if that would work). Maybe perhaps ANet can put in some PvE skill tomes or something as well?
Let's face it - those damn EotN PvE-skill quest chains are pretty long, especially by the time you get around to doing them on your 5th or 6th character. Given the power of these skills, it's hard to pass them up. At the very least, maybe ANet should give these skills out as part of the EotN dungeon quest rewards packages (ie. XP, Rep Points, Gold, and PvE Skills). It would give players the choice as to whether to do the chains of sidequests to get them (solo play) or complete dungeons and the associated dungeon quests to get them with a group. Sidequests for skills in Prophecies was only fun because you were given the option to either do the sidequests and get the skill(s) early in the game, or wait a few towns/missions and then be given the opportunity to buy them from skill traders later. (Although now, if the skills are unlocked on your account you can buy them wherever, but it wasn't always that way.) My point is, there was a CHOICE of how to obtain them. For the EotN PvE skills, right now there is one way, and one way only, to get them.
On a similar note, polymock pieces should be registered for your entire account, not just that one character. Those damn things are pretty damn rare (and carry a fairly-sizeable price in town) for just a sequence of glorified summon spell sidequests. I say this because nobody in their right mind wastes their time with polymock unless it's for these skills, and I'm not sure most people even bother doing these quests regardless. The summon skills aren't all that enticing compared to some of the other of your 3 PvE-skill skillbar choices that you get. (Well, the Vanguard Assassin is worth using sometimes, but he's not even given through polymock.)

Interface Improvements
Besides all of the above, and winning the next 4 lotteries I enter, I would like to see a few text related functions:
1) Ability to spool chat window to text files
2) Chat window display the current location (city/district) or area when it changes.
3) Ability to send an account character item list to aa text and/or html file (including pictures!). Showing all details for all characters' equipped items inventory items and in account storage (xunlai).
4) Ability to look at only WTB or WTS items in Search window.
5) Search window display more than 31 characters

Yes, I miss the days of getting an Ursan group and just having fun in the game. I haven't had a good pug experience in a long, long time. It's a shame that Anet decided to cave into a vocal minority, at the cost of many pick up groups who were having fun with Anet's original ideas. I'd wish for a return of Ursan as well, though I know it won't happen.
